2018 is coming to an end, and what an exciting year it has been for Bloom Racing!
This year our horses have taken us all over the world: California, Dubai, Florida, Texas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania, and what a thrilling ride it has been!
Leading the way for our banner year was Midnight Bisou. She hit the board in every race and ended her year as a five-time Graded Stakes winner, including G1 victories in the Santa Anita Oaks and the Cotillion Stakes. Our pretty filly has earned more than $1.5 Million to date. After showing some of her best workouts yet, Midnight Bisou will start her 2019 campaign with the G3 Houston Ladies Classic January 27.
One of our most memorable moments this year was watching Midnight Bisou run in the G1 Kentucky Oaks. Even with a troubled trip, she ran a gutsy third and let us all experience the exciting and historic “walk-over” at Churchill Downs. There really is something about racing under the Twin Spires, the iconic symbol of Churchill Downs. It was a great weekend of racing to see the top three-year-olds competing, and of course, watching Justify start his Triple Crown run.
Our eye-catching colt Snapper Sinclair was a whisker away from winning the G2 Risen Star Stakes, one of the major prep races for the Kentucky Derby. He is poised for a stakes-filled 2019.
Run Time, our stakes-winning turf horse, was invited to compete in the Dubai Gold Cup at the Meydan Racecourse. That was a trip we will never forget! And even more memorable, before the race, we went to St. Petersburg, Russia, as part of a group supporting Orphan Outreach, a charity we strongly support. We were able to visit with many of the older orphans who have aged out of the system. Orphan Outreach helps them with housing, career counseling, life skills training and emotional support as they learn to be productive citizens, responsible workers, and loving parents. It helps us to focus on what’s really important in this world: family, relationships, and serving others.
The fourth annual Bloom Racing Del Mar Bash again was a huge success and served as the perfect kick-off to the Del Mar meet. A packed crowd enjoyed the food and drinks at the renowned Belly Up Bar in Solana Beach, and the dance floor was crowded as the Rock ‘n’ Roll Rebels and The Limit both created an electric atmosphere for those lucky enough to score an invitation to what has become a “must go” event.
Breeders’ Cup this year was such a great achievement for us, with Bloom Racing qualifying three runners in the world’s toughest races: Midnight Bisou in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, Skye Diamonds in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, and Henley’s Joy in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
The Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint was Skye Diamonds’ final race. It was a bittersweet moment for all the owners. Claimed for $40,000 back in August 2016, she took us on the most incredible ride! After her run in her second Breeders’ Cup, she went to the Fasig-Tipton Night of the Stars Sale. She rang the bell at $500,000 and is now owned by Japan’s renowned Yoshida family, for the next chapter in her life as a broodmare.
Henley’s Joy provided our stable with back-to-back victories in the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Stakes with his dominating performance in this year’s edition. (Snapper Sinclair won the same race in 2017.) Henley has since won the Pulpit Stakes at Gulfstream Park and is ready for a big three-year old campaign.
We are excited with what we have in store for 2019. All of our soon-to-be three-year-olds have made exciting strides, as if they are saying, “Talk Derby to me!” Comedian lost by just a nose in his first start this month at Fair Grounds and Tikhvin Flew will begin the New Year running his first race at Aqueduct. Promising three-year-olds to keep an eye on in 2019 include Power End, Fantastico, Beemie Award and Misled, who will be making their highly anticipated debuts early in the coming year. That doesn’t even count the babies we have in training that will be ready to roll once the two-year-old races kick off next summer. It’s going to be a busy 2019 for Bloom Racing – and we can’t wait!
Bloom Racing wraps up the year with 16 wins and $2,671,271 in earnings. We look forward to an exciting 2019!
